Beard shampoo, top tip or fake news?

Those of you who have met the team know that every weekend we are travelling the country educating people about how to better take care of their beards. The most common question we get is how to prevent itchiness, beardruff, and dry skin under the beard. The quickest fix is a good quality beard oil but the foundation of good beard care begins in the shower.

Before we consider the differences between hair and beard shampoos it is important to look at the differences between your face, scalp, head-hair and beard. The skin on your scalp tends to be much oilier than the skin on your face and your head-hair tends to be much finer than the hair in your beard. As a result your head hair gets very oily and greasy very quickly to combat that hair shampoos are packed full of (normally) synthetic detergents like Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) designed to strip the skin and hair of its natural oils. Whilst you might want oil free head-hair, if you strip the limited oil from your face and beard you are left with dry dehydrated beard hair and dry itch skin on your face. You can see where we are going with this... . Ultimately using these types of shampoos will lead to your beard being left dry, course and unmanageable.

By using a beard shampoo such as our Beard Bar you will greatly reduce the risk of this happening as they are specifically designed to work with instead of against the natural oils produced by your skin and hair.

All of the ingredients in our solid shampoo have been selected for their benefits. It will cleanse your beard whilst helping to maintain a balance of your skins natural oils to prevent dry skin and will leave your beard feeling healthy, itch and beardruff free. The activated charcoal in the shampoo draws dirt out from the skin without the need for a harsh detergent eliminating blocked pores with visible results.

How often you wash your beard depends entirely on your skin and lifestyle. Ultimately once you start using a good quality beard shampoo you will very quickly work out what is best for you. You will still need to apply your favourite beard oil afterwards but will probably find that you need to apply less to get the same result.
