Don’t like reading blogs? The Bottom line is that over a 10-year period a handmade Norse double edge safety razor is £715 cheaper than a Gillette Fusion Proglide.
One of the most common questions / statements we get about the handmade Norse double edged razors is: “£40 that is expensive for a razor”. Every time I hear it a little bit of me dies inside because not only is £40 a great price for a handmade, aesthetically pleasing razor that delivers a great shave but it is also untrue when compared to other razors. To prove this, I will compare the cost of a Norse razor vs both the Gillette Fusion and Mach 3 razor systems over a 10-year period.
The following assumptions have been made when calculating the costs:
- A double edged razor blade will last on average seven days therefore 52 blades per year,
- A Gillette cartridge will on average last two weeks so 26 cartridges per year,
- Prices are taken from the Boots website and Norse’s website.
Upfront Costs:
Norse double edged razor = £40
200 razor blades from Norse = £20
Total = £65
Gillette Fusion = £12
Pack of 8 cartridges = £24
Total = £36
Gillette Mach 3 = £8
Pack of 8 cartridges = £15
Total = £23
So upfront a Norse razor is more expensive than a Gillette razor.
Annual running costs:
Norse = £5.20 (each double edged razor blade costs 10p per unit)
Gillette Fusion = £78 (each Fusion blade costs £3 per unit)
Gillette Mach 3 = £49.4 (each Mach 3 blade costs £1.9 per unit)
